SARA honours long-standing members at Annual General Meeting

The South Australian Rifle Association recognised eight long-standing members with Length of Service awards at its Annual General Meeting, held at Lower Light Range on Saturday 10 October 2026.

Presented by SARA Board Chair Cameron Whant, the awards recognised 50 and 60 year membership milestones. Recipients attending the presentation received a Certificate of Service and a commemorative membership medal acknowledging their longstanding connection with the Association.

Recognising six decades of membership

John Cadd, of Postal & Railways Rifle Club, received his 60-year award. John’s association with SARA extends beyond that milestone, with 66 years of membership to date.

Peter Byass, of Murray Bridge Rifle Club, was also recognised with a 60-year award but was unable to attend the presentation.

Celebrating 50-year milestones

Six members were recognised with 50-year awards:

  • Steven Giles — Postal & Railways Rifle Club

  • Reg Cunningham — Postal & Railways Rifle Club

  • Kerren Neale — Postal & Railways Rifle Club

  • Mitch Bialkowski — Phoenix Target Rifle Club

  • Frank Pinyon — Cyclists & Torrens Valley Rifle Club

  • Glen Heath — Light River Rifle Club

Among the recipients were SARA Life Members Reg Cunningham and Frank Pinyon. Frank is also a four-time winner of the SARA Queen’s/King’s Prize.

Glen Heath was unable to attend the presentation but was recognised alongside his fellow recipients.

A celebration shared across generations

The awards provided an opportunity to celebrate the longstanding connection these members share with SARA and the South Australian rifle shooting community.

It was particularly pleasing to see several family members in attendance, with multiple generations coming together to celebrate the recipients’ milestones. Their presence made the occasion all the more special, highlighting the strong family and community connections within SARA.

SARA congratulates all recipients and thanks them for their many years of membership and support.
